Our Visit to Alto Progreso, Pamplona Alta

Day 10: Last day of our volunteer experience We were off in the morning through the crazy hectic traffic in Lima and arrived at our one-day experience to teach children coloring, painting, and drawing. We had a confidence in our ability to interact with children because each of us was an involved mother and we […]

Students of Life

Today was our ninth and final day at La Molina. We could not have foreseen that we would be the active learners in this ongoing exchange of respect, culture, camaraderie, and knowledge. Every day new lessons were learned – about ourselves and each other, lessons about risk-taking and vulnerability, motivation and ambition, friendship and trust, […]

You Have Made a Difference in our Lives

Speech given by volunteer Priscilla Zobel at final celebration in Queretaro, Mexico: How many of you remember when you decided to become a teacher? How many of you remember a teacher who changed your life, a teacher who encouraged you? How many of you can remember feeling that a teacher believed in you? How many […]

Everday is a Little Bit of Heaven

We are ending our fifth day in Peru, and I have treasured three days at La Molina Language Center.  Each day is a lesson in graciousness, as my students teach me the meaning of the word by their attitudes and actions, and I teach them the definition of the word, as I thank them being […]

Our Arrival in Tanzania

Message of the Day: “The whole pace of life and personality of the people who live among them are different.  They’re not too busy to be coureous.  The hereness and nowness of things is something that they know all about.  The discovery is the real find.” – Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance As […]

I Thought Our Sense of Pride was High, but…

Day 9 in Lima was a day of reflection for me – not because I had to contribute to Edith’s request to journal, but because I have learned so much on this mission experience. As an American, I thought our sense of pride was high, but after our visit to Pamplona, I would have to […]

Highlights from Our Time in Costa Rica

Distance between people, doesn’t mean you can’t be close to their hearts! Two thousand six hundred eighty two miles is exactly how far I live from Colegio of Santa Elena (‘colegio’ means secondary school for those like me who don’t speak a lot of Spanish). But all those miles do not come close to how […]

Mission Accomplished!

Team 227 woke up to a rainy morning on Friday, the final day of service for the California Contingent. Watching our Team Members sit down to enjoy our first bite of breakfast at 7:00 a.m. sharp was a thing of beauty, though young Master Haiden was delayed by the onset of a cold and the […]
