Helping Children in Ecuador – Playing, Teaching, Feeding & Hammering
Ecuador Country Manager Maggie Bjorklund describes opportunities to help children in Ecuador with Global Volunteers.
In the gorgeous Andes Mountains of Ecuador, South America, Global Volunteers partners with the Foundation of Ladies of Calderón, a non-profit organization that runs two daycare centers on the margin of the city of Quito for disadvantaged families in the community. Without this daycare option, mothers would be unable to work to provide for their families. At these daycare centers, 140 children aged one to three are cared for day to day. The staff is spread thin, having to carry out center responsibilities in addition to caring for ten small children each. For 20 years, Global Volunteers in Ecuador have been helping to provide these children with the additional tender loving care they need and deserve. Volunteers play with the children, do projects with them, feed them nutritious meals, teach them about hygiene, and make them smile. And for those with an interest in doing light labor projects to improve the daycare centers, we can use your skills to help our children in Ecuador. Take a look at the photos of these precious children. Can you even resist them?
“I’ll always remember putting the kids down for a nap. They’re so precious, and they just look at me with their big, beautiful eyes before slowly closing them. These little moments remind me of the difference we’re making. Something so little can mean so much.”
