Festive Xi’an

The Chinese New Year or Spring Festival for 2014 will be on January 31.  People will get a 7-day holiday from January 31- February 6. But traditionally, the New Year celebrations run from the New Year’s Eve, the last day of the last month of the lunar calendar, to the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first month. For this most biggest and important festival in China, it’s important that you get home on the New Year’s Eve for the family gathering and big dinner no matter how far and difficult it is. It feels different being in Xi’an now as the city is getting emptier everyday with the migrant workers leaving for the festival. The city also looks quite festive with red lantern decorations everywhere.
