“Global Volunteers Was The Best Thing I Have Ever Done”
Caitlin Sturms-Salyer, a University of Iowa scholarship recipient who is studying Social Work, just returned from a two-week service program in Calderón, Ecuador. Here is what she has to say about her experience: “Words cannot describe my experience serving the sweet children of Ecuador. Global Volunteers was the best thing I have ever done. I miss my team and the children everyday. I was beyond blessed to go on this amazing journey. The people of Ecuador were so kind, loving, genuine, and determined, despite their impoverished conditions. Thank you for everything.”
At a daycare center for disadvantaged children, Caitlin took care of children, fed them, played with them, helped paint murals, and taught conversational English to the staff. Caitlin says: “I will forever cherish the kind hearts and smiles of the tías and the children. Despite the hard circumstances, their souls are joyful. I will carry this spirit with me throughout life.”
