Jubilee Celebration

Message of the Day: “It is not down on any map; true places never are.” – Herman Melville

Saturday – Today is the big celebration! We all get dressed up and headed to the secondary school with Edward. Distinguished guests had not yet arrived so we toured around and see the setup of the stage and the cooking in the kitchen. At about 11:00 am, the very important guests of honor arrive and the ceremony begins. The stage is beautifully decorated and there are lots of students and family members in the audience. The events are beautiful – we loved seeing the students acting in skits and the acrobatic show, as well as the families presenting necklaces and gifts to the graduates. Lots of singing and dancing too. The fundraiser raised about nine million Tanzanian shillings for the administrative building – a big success!

Sunday – We attended mass at the Roman Catholic church and enjoyed the service and the singing very much. After lunch we went to the secondary school to hear the choir singing and played scrabble too. It was a great way to spend informal time with the people of Pommern as well as learn more Swahili and learn more about the culture.
