Teaching and Learning Language

TAN1410A1 Aidan and Deborah teaching Standard 6Message of the Day: “Stop worrying about the potholes in the road and enjoy the journey.” – Babs Hoffman

Journal: Classes in the morning – really feel like the students are improving and learning.  Aidan and I graded an English assignment for Standard 5 on the subject of “reflexive pronouns” (myself, himself, yourself, herself, itself, themselves, etc.) and felt bad as many students had errors.  It’s a difficult concept, but with help from Engera, the teacher, translating our explanations, they seem to be understanding.  After a quick lunch (ugali…yum!), we walked through the market and then down to the secondary school to help with the library.  Moses was there and eager to have our help.  A busy day! We translated a “clapping rhyme” from Swahili so we’d understand it and we’re learning it so we can play with the kids and sing in Swahili!
