Very pleased with the results of our labor

899Well, today was the last day of our trip. Missy has already left us for a tour of the Galapagos. Darrell and Jenn have returned to the school for their final day – finishing the sandbox, we have affectionately renamed to ‘the playroom’. Between not being able to get sand, and the box being room sized with a roof, the school will be able to use the structure for anything they want. Darrell and Jenn helped finish the rest of the room, cleaned up, and started their goodbyes. Since it was Valentine’s Day and Friday, all of the kids started leaving a bit early and all of the tías got spruced up for their evenings. As the kids left, they were given the Valentine’s bunnies the volunteers helped create, and were each given a bag of candy that was from a large donation to the center. Everyone was happy and excited – a holiday on a Friday is a great way to end a week, and a project. Darrell and Jenn returned to the hotel, grabbed dinner together, and each went their own way. I can say we were all very pleased with the results of our labor and the smiles on all the kids’ faces. They were very excited when we took a final picture in the finished room. We can’t wait to see how future teams build off the foundation we left in the play area. So long Ecuador. We’ve had fun!
