Global Volunteers is a U.S. based NGO in the central time zone (UTC -6). Because tax-deductibility, visa requirements, and language proficiencies vary, please choose the country you’re inquiring from to enable us to provide you the most appropriate information.

As our website portrays, our current service programs center around providing the 12 Essential Services for our Reaching Children's Potential Program. As a private, non-profit organization independent from government and religious funding, Global Volunteers’ programs are financed almost entirely by volunteer contributions. This is important because our community partners cannot afford the “open market” costs of the services and materials we provide. Your tax-deductible service program contribution pays your expenses in the partner community. These include your food, lodging, work site transportation, program materials, team leadership, emergency evacuation insurance, and administrative costs. In addition, we provide supplemental financing to help meet our host’s many, on-going and special needs.


While English fluency does not disqualify you from participating on any of our programs, Global Volunteers is a U.S based NGO with your teammates, training materials and other communications being conduced primarily in English.

We’re unable to provide any assistance in obtaining your passport or visa. You'll need a passport to travel abroad and for some countries, you’ll need a visa.  Please keep this in mind when planning your travel schedule. If you live outside the U.S., you may have additional restrictions for participating on U.S. programs.

Hit the road for adventure and service! Abroad or at home, you can travel with a purpose to spectacular volunteer destinations in 15 countries and provide vital community assistance. We focus on projects to help children reach their full potential through health, nutrition and education.

All volunteer work projects are conducted at the invitation and under the direction of local leaders.  You can feel confident that your contributions truly make a difference.

Teach: English, math, science, geography, computer skills, health and hygiene and life skills to elementary and secondary students.

Nurture: Babies, toddlers and pre-school students in childcare centers, orphanages and learning centers.

Support: New mothers, marginalized women, pregnant teens and rural caregivers through workshops and educational programs.

Administer: Health care to children, mothers and pregnant women at medical clinics, hospitals, dental offices and community centers.

Nourish: Families with container gardens, nutritious meals, clean water and micro-nutrient supplements.

Repair: Community buildings, paint and upgrade schools and libraries, and assist with plumbing, carpentry and electrical projects.

Your Safety

Your health and security are our highest concerns. We provide three nutritious meals and bottled water daily, safe community accommodations, reputable transportation, a trained team leader, and emergency medical evacuation insurance abroad.

Our sustained community partnerships ensure you’ll be engaged in full-day work projects. Working in Consultative Status with the United Nations, we adhere to comprehensive development standards on projects to help children reach their full potential in all host countries.

Development Focus

Since 1984, we’ve assisted over 200 communities in 34 countries on six continents. We We focus on long-term development outcomes, and raise funds and allocate resources for community projects in addition to proving continuous volunteer service.
