Opening To New Experiences – Volunteering In Cuba

So I am choosing to stay open and experience everything in an ACCEPTING WAY. My open experiences today are: Approaching each person who makes eye contact with a smile and a “buen dia” Appreciating interesting things about every person on the team Embracing the numerous new things I am learning about Cuba Absorbing the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of Cuba So, with an open heart and willingness to approach, appreciate, embrace and absorb each experience, I say “Hola Cuba! Estoy tan feliz estar aqui !” -Marion… (Search hits: 3 in body, 0 in title, %category% in categories, 0 in tags, %taxonomy% in other taxonomies, 0 in comments. Score: 194.57)

…of any kind, really, is built from the personal connections made. When there is a connection, pathways to instruction open up. You see ways to personalize and target instructional needs and how effective particular strategies are. Was there any one individual who made a strong impression on you? When Sharon and I were in the main public square on a Sunday, the same man came up and proudly introduced us to his wife… (Search hits: 3 in body, 0 in title, %category% in categories, 0 in tags, %taxonomy% in other taxonomies, 0 in comments. In his speech, Governor Karol Tchórzewski thanked Global Volunteers and the some 3,000 volunteers who have served in Siedlce county since 1990, mentioning, “I believe that even more important than the tangible results of Global Volunteers’ work in Poland is the number of students or the benefits of other forms of assistance — the friendships, the openness, the selflessness, the optimism. Each of the students, thanks to contact with volunteers, has become a different person — more open, more spontaneous, better.” Global Volunteers’ 30th Anniversary team (Leo Pyzynski (second from left), Duane Besso, Dawn Marquez, Joyce Burr, and Penny Louise Flavin) attends the gala along with community members. It was renovated 10 years ago mainly through manual labor. Our host, Orlando Concepcion pointed out a special attribution of this theater is to live in and hold a 10 day event twice a year in a deprived community. I think that was one of the things I enjoyed most about being in Cuba was the almost childlike position that it put me in.
