St. John Fisher University
St. John Fisher University is a collaborative community dedicated to teaching, learning, and scholarship in a student-centered educational environment. The University is guided by its liberal arts tradition and its Catholic heritage, as expressed in the motto of its founders, the Basilian Fathers: “teach me goodness, discipline, and knowledge.” Fisher engages individuals in lives of intellectual inquiry, professional integrity, and civic responsibility, where diversity and service to others are valued and practiced.
This is where Global Volunteers’ philosophy of service supports St. John Fisher’s mission. According to the President, “Community engagement and service have told the University’s story since our beginning. It is part of the University’s mission and vision, and is central to the student-authored Fisher Creed document, which each new student signs at the start of every academic year. This type of service and teaching are simply part of our culture, it’s who we are. Our educational goal is to help our students build lives, create careers, and serve the community.”
Each year, St. John Fisher University students participate on service programs with Global Volunteers globally through various schools and departments, and has been instrumental in data collection and analysis of RCP program outcomes in Tanzania. The Wegman’s School of Pharmacy was the first school to commit to international service, and has consistently sent students and faculty to support communities across the globe.
