The 12 Essential Services for Development Projects Abroad

The power of volunteers changes everything. The needs in our host communities are vast, and so are the opportunities to make a genuine difference. United Nations agencies cooperate to address the fundamental obstacles preventing children worldwide from reaching their full potential. Global Volunteers responds to help where needed. To do this, we adapted the innovative work of the World Food Program (WFP), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to make development projects abroad accessible to short-term volunteers. Our model enables you to contribute directly and meaningfully in three broad categories: Hunger, Health and Cognition. We enable you to work with local leaders on community-based projects – because mothers’ and children’s nutrition, health and cognition are fundamental to every community’s vitality. Research clearly demonstrates that children who have enough food, sufficient nutrition and adequate protection from infectious disease progress better, and develop normally, as compared to children without those essentials. By contributing to volunteer projects abroad that provide all 12 Essential Services, you invest in the entire community’s success.  Its an additive process that – over time – yields real, measurable and significant results.
