Reaching Children's Potential Tanzania

Welcoming the August RCP Newborns in Tanzania

What’s more fun than BABIES? In this series, we focus on the newest members of the Reaching Children’s Potential (RCP) Demonstration Program in Tanzania — newborns. In this post, we welcome six babies born in August 2021. Their moms joined the program to provide them a healthy start at life, and the nutrition and care needed to grow strong and realize their potential. Global Volunteers’ RCP Program helps parents deliver essential services to eliminate child stunting in the Ukwega Ward. It’s a child-focused, parent-driven, family-centered, and community-led comprehensive effort beginning with pregnancy, and continuing through the 18th birthday, with a focus on the first 1,000 days of life.

Six beautiful babies were born to RCP mothers in August at the Ipalamwa General Clinic. RCP moms are encouraged to give birth at Global Volunteers’ healthcare facility and are invited to stay in the guest house before and after the birth. Please join us in welcoming Alvin, Ivan, Fausta, Natasha, Amos, and Falestina!

Alvin Mhanga was born on August 1 to RCP mom Getruda Chusi from Lulindi village. Alvin weighed 7 pounds 15 ounces, had a head circumference of 13.8 inches, and measured 21.3 inches long. Alvin has seven siblings: brother Juhudi (age 18), sister Josephine (age 16), sister Imelda (age 14), sister Anna (age 10), sister Jeifa (age 7), sister Lemina (age 5), and brother Joel (age 3). Getruda joined the RCP Program in January 2018.
