Reaching Children's Potential Tanzania

Welcoming the October RCP Newborns in Tanzania

What’s more fun than BABIES? In this series, we focus on the newest members of the Reaching Children’s Potential (RCP) Demonstration Program in Tanzania — newborns. In this post, we welcome three babies born in October 2020. Their moms joined the program to provide them a healthy start at life, and the nutrition and care needed to grow strong and realize their potential. Global Volunteers’ RCP Program helps parents deliver essential services to eliminate child stunting in the Ukwega Ward. It’s a child-focused, parent-driven, family-centered, and community-led comprehensive effort beginning with pregnancy, and continuing through the 18th birthday, with a focus on the first 1,000 days of life.

Three beautiful babies were born to RCP mothers in October at the Ipalamwa General Clinic. RCP moms are encouraged to give birth at Global Volunteers’ healthcare facility and are invited to stay in the guest house before and after the birth. Please join us in welcoming Vainessa, Shaifani, and Floriana!

Vainessa Makai was born on October 2 to RCP mom Oliva Kitosi from Ukwega village. Vainessa is a baby girl who weighed 6 pounds 9.8 ounces, had a head circumference of 13.8 inches, and measured 19.7 inches long. Vainessa is the first born in her family. Oliva joined the RCP Program in July 2020 when she was 7 months pregnant.
