You don’t have to make your subject and your verb agree…

Today we continued working in the gym to get ready for the science fair. Our preparations today included moving desks and chairs from the classrooms down to the gym, building a stage, and making floral arrangements. I was really surprised how everything came together at the end of the day. The stage looked very nice and the floral arrangements were very creative. I was extremely impressed on how they were able to make such beautiful decorations simply by gathering leaves and flowers from around the school.

While setting up the gym, I got to know some of the students a little better. Justin and I had a very long and in-depth conversation with two seventh graders, Katy and Merilyn. They were very friendly and helped me a lot with my Spanish. If I didn’t understand what they were saying, they would elaborate until I did. I was so amazed at how good of teachers they were to me, even at such a young age. We got to hang out with Wilmer again today, and I took a peak at his science fair project, which is very interesting. Today, we also met a group of older kids who specialize in cooking at the school. There really isn’t much difference between them and us when we were their age. They were extremely outgoing and witty. Even though there is a language barrier between us, we connected with the students immediately. It was interesting to hear their thoughts about Americans. I was surprised and honored to hear that they think Americans are really friendly people. Overall, I can tell that the students are beginning to open up to us. I can’t believe how easy it is to make friends with these people, even though we come from two completely different worlds. I’m really excited to meet more students tomorrow at the science fair, as well as see the student’s projects. I have a feeling that this is going to be the most exciting science fair I’ve ever been to.
