Make Sure You Never Miss An Email From Global Volunteers. Here’s How.
Because email services have taken very strong measures to fight spam, some emails from Global Volunteers might be mistakenly routed to your spam filter, or otherwise sent to subordinate folders (such as “promotions” or “other” in Gmail or Outlook). The result is you may never see our messages to you, and we might conclude that you’re no longer interested in Global Volunteers’ programs. Very soon, you may find that you rarely hear from us! These instructions can help you with the process to overcome this obstacle. It can seem daunting, but it’s actually simple.
Learn how to “whitelist” your important email and move it into the correct folder.
To ensure you never miss a Global Volunteers email, you must train your email program (Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, etc.) to deliver messages from Global Volunteers and icontact.com (our newsletter service) to your primary inbox, and confirm that mail from Global Volunteers is not spam. This requires adding those domains to a “whitelist.” It’s always good practice to regularly check your spam filter for important messages and mark them “not spam” or “not junk”, which automatically adds the sender to the whitelist.
Train the inbox to properly route email:
- For Outlook: Change The Level Of Protection In The Junk Email Filter.
- For Gmail: Customize Spam Filter Settings.
- For Yahoo: Using Filters To Sort Incoming Email.

If you use a Web mail system or email application adding the “From” address to your “address book”, “safe list”, “whitelist” or “contact list” will usually work.
Also, check your “spam”, “bulk” or “junk” folder. If the email is there look for a way to indicate that it is not spam. For example by selecting the email and clicking a button such as “Not Spam” or “Not Junk”.
