Romania: Home Away From Home!

Message of the day:
“Humility is not thinking less of yourself; it’s thinking of yourself less”.  – C S Lewis

The little girl now has a "mother"..or an older sister!

The little girl now has a “mother”..or an older sister!

Where do I begin other than to say time is going so fast and it’s hard to believe that this is our final week here. That thought is so sad to us – and well, I shall not dwell upon that thought any longer and instead talk about the joys of this wonderful day we have had.

This morning, we awoke to a light dusting of snow upon the ground and it was so beautiful.!Then at the hospital, we came into a room and saw the reason we are here and it warmed our hearts.

This day was so much:  We read books, played with toys, and even for a little while a little boy and I did a puzzle together (ok , so he had me put it together, but he did hand me the pieces). We sang our favorite song – which is the “wheels on the bus “and the kids love that song and each one has their own motion to the song.

I had a conversation with one of the girls who was making noises and then laughing at the sounds the other one made. This was such a precious day with the kids; we had some great one-on-one time with each child, and it was such a blessing to spend time with them.

Then the day became even more joyful when we were invited to our host family’s home for dinner. It was so much fun and the food was so good. It was so great to be invited in and eat as a family around a table in their home. We talked, laughed, and just took time to enjoy one another’s company. As we left both my stomach and my heart were filled; it was good to be reminded that no matter where you go – you can have a family away from home.  That’s exactly what I have found here in Romania between the kids that I work with, my teammates, and our wonderful host family!  I have found a home and family in a different country. I know this sounds sappy but it is very true.  So until the next time I write, have a blessed day.
– Mandy
