Development Impact

The Lasting Impact of Year-End Giving

Year-end giving is an effective way to close the year on a positive note by making a lasting contribution to Global Volunteers’ work and mission. Donations are a vital source of support to Global Volunteers. They enable us to make a more significant impact in the communities and with the children and families we serve. All donors play a critical role in helping our service programs grow and expand.

Why Global Volunteers needs your support

After participating in a service program, volunteers often find themselves inspired and motivated to continue contributing to the work of Global Volunteers. In addition to enrolling in another service program, most volunteers want to engage in other ways beyond physical involvement. As a result of their experiences with our trusted staff and volunteers, they are confident their financial support will make a huge difference in the lives of others.

By donating to Global Volunteers, alumni volunteers maintain their legacy and the effort they invested in a service program by financially supporting our mission and goals. Others who are unable to participate in a service program find that making a monetary gift to Global Volunteers is a great way to make an impact as well. Our staff is always aware of the specific needs of each community partner and allocates your financial support economically and effectively.

“I have very fond memories of my seven service programs with Global Volunteers. Unfortunately, my health prevents me from serving again, so I continue supporting the children in St. Lucia with a donation each year.”

– Carol, seven-time Global Volunteer alumni and donor
Maggi Gallaher (far left) has volunteered on seven service programs around the world and is a Founding Member of Global Volunteers’ Changemakers Club of monthly donors. Maggi is particularly passionate about the new Reaching Children’s Potential Program in Peru.

Donations help our service programs grow and expand in numerous ways:

  • Financial support: Donations cover the costs associated with operating our service programs and enable us to expand support to the communities we serve. Monetary gifts fund new initiatives and programs, allow us to offer more diverse experiences for volunteers, and provide aid to more children and families.
  • Increased capacity: Donations enable us to increase our service program capacity in our partner communities by hiring additional staff, purchasing necessary equipment or supplies, or funding expanded activities. This allows us to serve more people and offer a broader range of services. For example, the summer camp in Poland can now accommodate a greater number of children due to the generosity of our donors.
  • Sustainability: Donations are the key to ensuring service programs are sustainable by providing an ongoing, consistent, reliable source of funding, and allowing for investment in growth and expansion. Our goal is to build long-lasting partnerships with every community we serve.
Erin Woody emphasizes that her donations make her feel “fully a part of Global Volunteers.”

Something for everyone in Global Volunteers’ Gift Catalog

“I am thrilled to have made purchases from this year’s Gift Catalog. I chose the most relevant needs I was personally aware of from my service program experiences. The chickens will keep on giving which is huge. My recipients love my ongoing generosity to others in this way. ‘The good we do will know no end.'”

 – Liz Corliss Wilkins, ongoing donor and volunteer

A tax-deductible purchase through our Gift Catalog allows you to give your financial support directly to a program that resonates with you or the person to whom you are giving. There is something for everyone, including those in your life who seem impossible to please. You can also give the gift of supporting our “Greatest Need,” which allows our staff to allocate your financial gift to where it is most needed. Your generous contribution allows Global Volunteers to meet changing demands as they arise. Our Gift Catalog offers a great way to simplify gift-giving. It is a convenient place to quickly find and purchase gifts that are meaningful and support a good cause, including helping children reach their full potential.

“My sister is a conservationist and minimalist living in a tiny house. For her birthday, to give her something meaningful that connects with her love of family and stewardship of the Earth, I chose an EarthBox container garden. Now she’ll know that when she’s planting her own vegetables, a child across the world is having a healthy meal as well.”

Kristin Whitbeck, future Tanzania volunteer

We know that choosing a nonprofit to support is an important decision. We invite you to view our ratings on GuideStar and Charity Navigator.
