“Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country” – JFK Today we had a half-day of volunteering. I taught a class on the environmental effects of rapidly growing populations and learned that Tanzanians are encouraged to have no more than 2 children. Meanwhile Hope continued to […]

Tips for Responsible Volunteering

As our volunteer teams grow larger and more frequent, we offer these tips for maximizing your positive impact in the host community: First, confine your service to work projects based on local leaders’ vision, commitment and contributions. Such volunteer projects don’t cost local people more effort than the volunteer contribution merits. Second, be aware that […]

The babies have opened our hearts to love more

“I would like to thank the babies of Tutova. We’ve talked about how sad and difficult their lives are (and this is true) but in many ways, they’ve already done more to impact the world than many people ever will. Red Dirt

Red dirt – that has been our home for the past three weeks. We have walked countless miles around the village and on that red dirt we practiced our Kihehe and Kiswahili terms.   On that red dirt we saw the smiling faces of mothers, fathers, grandfathers, grandmothers, and the crying faces of babies who […]

Volunteers Perspective

Today was my first day back without Iris and it made for a weird day. I expected her gentleness or soft smile throughout the […]
