Reaching Children's Potential Tanzania

Welcoming the February RCP Newborns in Tanzania

What’s more fun than BABIES? In this series, we focus on the newest members of the Reaching Children’s Potential (RCP) Demonstration Program in Tanzania — newborns. In this post, we welcome five babies born in February 2022! Their moms joined the program to provide them a healthy start at life, and the nutrition and care needed to grow strong and realize their potential. Global Volunteers’ RCP Program helps parents deliver essential services to eliminate child stunting in the Ukwega Ward. It’s a child-focused, parent-driven, family-centered, and community-led comprehensive effort beginning with pregnancy, and continuing through the 18th birthday, with a focus on the first 1,000 days of life.

Five beautiful babies were born to RCP mothers in February at the Ipalamwa General Clinic. RCP moms are encouraged to give birth at Global Volunteers’ healthcare facility and are invited to stay in the guest house before and after the birth. Please join us in welcoming Alen, Belinda, Hosea, and two newborn baby boys who are just a few days old and have not yet been named!

Alen Kihoo was born on February 3 to RCP mom Mariam Ngusi from Ukwega village. Alen weighed 5 pounds 8 ounces, had a head circumference of 13.8 inches, and measured 17.7 inches long. Baby boy Alen is the first born in his family. Mariam joined the RCP Program in November 2021 when she was six months pregnant with Alen.

Baby girl Belinda has two older siblings: brother Yusufu (age 8) and sister Happy (age 6). Tegemea joined the RCP Program in August 2021 when she was three months pregnant with Belinda.
