“I Feel Like a Real Teacher”

Today was a relatively busy day, but it was interesting and great. I feel like I became a real teacher. This morning I woke up at 6:30 as usual, I had breakfast, then I went to the school. I was somehow nervous because it would be my first time to teach a class. Even though […]

Free Time Options Greece

Here’s an Idea – Hiking in Crete in your Free Time!

Thanks to Greece volunteer Lynn Lotkowictz for her recommendation: About 10 years ago, I had to give up running for the usual wear and tear reasons. But the void it left was tremendous.  My job, managing an energetic sales team and support staff, is demanding, and running was how I relieved stress while also managing […]

A Place Not So Famous

I think people should travel to places which are not famous, or places which are hard to reach, like Pomerni and Iringa, because in this way they will have experiences that they’ve never had, see things that they’ve never seen, not like going to London to check out the Big Ben, which most likely you’ve […]

A New Day in Africa

Yesterday was my first day in Africa. The sea shore of Dar es salaam was very beautiful, especially when right before dark. Explaining Blind-Link and Omamori Spa in Hanoi

We would like to introduce volunteers to our new organization, Blind-Link, and the Omamori Spa, a place for employment for visually impaired young Vietnamese adults.  We have finalized an important partnership between Global Volunteers and Blind Link to benefit the poorest and most vulnerable adults in Hanoi. Blind-Link has been a dream for many years.  […]

“There is no end to learning”

How true the Confucian saying that there is no end to learning! Perhaps nowhere is this concept more evident than in the teaching-learning process. If the sage were living today, he would have more than a thing or two to learn about this ever-changing world, wouldn’t he? I wonder what kind of student he would […]

Meaningful Work on the Reservation

This is simply an amazing experience for my daughter and for me.  I’m profoundly appreciative that I had the opportunity to do some work related to psychiatry (although I still would have been happy to paint fences!). The treatment program where I did an in-service with the staff on debriefing is really pretty amazing.  They were remarkably receptive, […]

More Cultural Experiences on the Blackfeet Reservation

Today Ann H, Molly, Kelley and Sunny continued to work with the children at the Nurturing Center.  They got a new little boy last night so now there are five girls and two boys all aged six and under.  Sunny spent time with Pat who does the cooking at the Safe House making possible menus […]
