Reaching Children's Potential Tanzania

Welcoming the December RCP Newborns in Tanzania

What’s more fun than BABIES? In this series, we focus on the newest members of the Reaching Children’s Potential (RCP) Demonstration Program in Tanzania — newborns. In this post, we welcome four babies born in December 2021 — including twins! Their moms joined the program to provide them a healthy start at life, and the nutrition and care needed to grow strong and realize their potential. Global Volunteers’ RCP Program helps parents deliver essential services to eliminate child stunting in the Ukwega Ward. It’s a child-focused, parent-driven, family-centered, and community-led comprehensive effort beginning with pregnancy, and continuing through the 18th birthday, with a focus on the first 1,000 days of life.

Four beautiful babies were born to RCP mothers in December at the Ipalamwa General Clinic. RCP moms are encouraged to give birth at Global Volunteers’ healthcare facility and are invited to stay in the guest house before and after the birth. Please join us in welcoming Johnson, Bryan, Brown, and Husuma — all baby boys!

Johnson King’ung’e was born on December 6 to RCP mom Caro Lunyungu from Ipalamwa village. Johnson weighed 7 pounds 1 ounce, had a head circumference of 13.4 inches, and measured 20.5 inches long. Baby boy Johnson has one older sister, Adela, who is three years and ten months old. Caro joined the RCP Program in April 2018.

Twins Bryan and Brown Ngasakwa were born on December 12 to RCP mom Ferida Kitime from Lulindi village. Bryan weighed 6 pounds 3 ounces, had a head circumference of 13.3 inches, and measured 19.7 inches long. Brown weighed 5 pounds 15 ounces, had a head circumference of 12 inches, and measured 18.3 inches long. These twin baby boys have five older siblings: sister Shakira (age 18), brother Omary (age 15), sister Mariam (age 13), sister Faraja (age 9), and brother Elia (age 4). Ferida joined the RCP Program at its inception in July 2017.

Huruma Wihale was born on December 21 to RCP mom Grace Kasuga from Ukwega village. Huruma weighed 8 pounds 9 ounces, had a head circumference of 14.6 inches, and measured 21.3 inches long. Baby boy Huruma is the first born in his family. Grace joined the RCP Program in July 2021 when she was four months pregnant with Huruma.
