Monday – Imagine School & Caves – Very Busy Day
The morning started with our usual breakfast and short meeting. Upon arriving at the school, we proceeded to our various assignments. My first two hours were spent with teacher, Anna Maria. One student presented her power point on Chaucer with a brief biography and a short summary of two of the Canterbury Tales. I was impressed. Later, students asked me questions about American high schools and the use of technology and media in our schools.
In the afternoon we visited the UNESCO site, Grotte de Castellana, underground caves, discovered by Franco Anelli and Vito Matarrise in 1938. Tourists from all over the world flock to see this magical wonder of the world. After visiting the site, we adjourned to a nearby restaurant where we were honored with the playing of the Star Spangled Banner and a display of the American flag. It was especially appreciated, since it is Memorial Day and we are away from home. We were also entertained by high school three students with a short concert.
Our hosts were the parents of the students . The school principal also attended and presented each of us with a lovely book and pictures of the Grotto area.
The day ended on a high note. Tired but happy, we were ready to call it a day.
